Performance and Stability.

I've tried to be patient but I'm about ready to give up on this app. The previous version was about perfect as far as I'm concerned. It ran well, was easy to use and was stable. I never had any crashes. The app just worked. The latest release is just a mess. Besides the missing features (ie: Download All) the app just doesn't work well. I hate tapping on something and then waiting 3-4 seconds before it does anything. When using it in Sunday School it can easily take 30+ seconds to navigate to where I want to be...and then it frequently crashes and I have to start all over again. The new user interface is also quite clunky. I've read through the complaints on here and on Reddit, I've submitted crash reports when the app crashes and nothing seems to be getting better...if anything it's getting worse. I experienced 6 crashes during Sunday School this past week. I'm running this on a Nexus 6P and an NVidia Shield Tablet. The problem seems to be even worse on budget phones that I see other people have. The app is almost worthless as far as I'm concerned. I know that I can sideload an old version but I'd really like to see the current version just get better.

If you look back through the forums you can see that the first releases of Gospel Library 2 and Gospel Library 3 had similar problems with stability, performance, crashing, etc.:
https://tech.lds.org/forum/search.php?k ... mit=Search

In each case, the problems were ironed out with updates.

However, 30 seconds for navigation and 6 crashes during Sunday School is not normal. If you can, please send in-app feedback to the support team (Settings > Send Feedback) – when you send feedback through the app, it can attach diagnostic information about your device that the support team can use to help diagnose the problem and get it fixed.

I just sent in-app feedback. I hope that it helps. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing a couple of times. I've also seen others suffer with the same issues so it doesn't seem to be just limited to my device. The last couple times it crashed I used the option to send an error report. I don't know where those go but that might have some more information for you. I really hope that it get's better soon because it's been a while now and I've yet to see any improvement. I used to be a beta tester and the old Beta's used to not have this many problems.

I have found that the latest version of the app is pushing the physical limits of my phone, using more memory, more storage space, and all of those other things that cause a computer of any sort, including a smart phone, to stumble. I had to offload some other apps to have enough room for GL to run with any efficiency at all.

That said, pushing a bookmark button leaves me wondering if I really pressed it or not, at least for a second or two. And don't get me started on search. It is no longer efficient at all.

So there are some software programming changes that have slowed down the app noticeably.

How old is the phone? Or, maybe a better question, what version of Android is it running? While not much as been said about it, I'm sure the newer versions of GL have left behind older Android versions. It just may not be as obvious as it has been with iOS or Windows.

Thanks! Hopefully we can get it figured out.

The app should work on Android 4.0 and greater (our oldest testing device is 4.0.4), with the following exceptions:
– "Show Screens as Separate Windows" requires Android 5+.
– Changing audio speed requires Android 6+.
– Split screen requires Android 7+.

Depending on your device, you may have other limitations:
– Casting audio or video via Chromecast requires a device with Google Play services (e.g. not Kindles).
– Sending in-app feedback requires an email account to be set up.
– Highlighting text requires the latest updates for Android System WebView (or Chrome if you're on Android 7+), or else it may crash while dragging the highlight handles.

5.0.1
And yes, I am part of the left behind membership of the Church with fully functioning devices. So much for frugality.

Well, until last "black Friday" I was at 4.4.4 if I remember correctly. So, I don't think you're that far back.
