Re: Support for Windows XP being discontinued

Tomorrow the last 'Patch Tuesday' load will be released. However, reports via Sophos' 'Naked Security' blog indicate that Microsoft will still support the Windows Security Essentials portion of XP for another year. So we've got some time. Also, Chrome and Firefox are set to continue updating for the...

Re: New Internet Filter

On DNS filtering, it only really works well in relation to certain spam gang sites, as they use ranges that are known and in fact are or should be blocked by most reputable content filters. But most garden-variety sites are hosted on servers that may contain several totally unrelated domains, and so...

Re: New Internet Filter

Setting up the DNS access this way is a very good thing to do, it's one of the best security practices anyone c an do. And Zscaler has made this aspect of Internet security very easy to do, even for some of our STS people who may not know a whole lot about DNS settings, so it is a real plum of a pro...

Re: New Internet Filter

Thanks, both things are correct, Zscaler is no rookie, they've had their growing pains like anyone else though. But I find it odd that I can't find zPath used as a product name in search engine results though. Since the Church migrated to Zscaler, there has actually been an improvement in performanc...

Re: New Internet Filter

I did a search for 'zShift' on Google (using k9safesearch.com) and came up with only one result for the Zscaler product, the rest were related to gaming and gamers and a BMW car using that name. This link tells more about zShift as we are discussing: http://www.esecurityplanet.com/network-security/z...

Re: New Internet Filter

Looked up zPath on Google via k9safesearch.com (filtered search engine that works better than Safe Search modes on Google) and found no such thing as the 'zPath web filtering'. zPath is actually a library based on xPath, which is from what I could tell, an XML library. If it is a very new company, w...

Re: Virus win32\small.ca

If Sophos missed it, it's likely a very new version of a known virus. If you can trap it, send the sample to samples at sophos.com and they will tell you in a few hours whether it is a new one and a definition is being pushed out, or whether it's something they have. The filtering software in use no...

Re: Sing-a-long Hymns (video library/karoke style)

For Youtube, the Church has put up all the music from the last five Conferences on that site along with the talks. Those also should be available on Roku and on the apps as well. The congregational hymns mid-session have the words on-screen, Also, if you look at the Interactive Music Player, you wil...

Re: What happens when a member dies?

FamilySearch also has the SSDI on it as well. They update it monthly. There is one family history site that is commercial in nature, I think it's GenealogyBank.com, gets nearly daily updates to it as well. The SSDI has the death location as well as where the death benefit was sent. When a member die...

Re: Family Safe Tracking for all devices

That's probably true of most consumer routers, one would have to check the specs of any given router to see if you can get that type of data. K9 will give you the categories of websites visited. Those categories that are heavily visited will show at the top. Even bad categories will see the occasion...
