Goals of FamilySearch Wiki

I have to admit that I have had the exact same thoughts as Alan at times with the FamilySearch Wiki posts. Could you perhaps explain the background of the Wiki being established, its goals, and to what extent its development is internal to the Church and external to the community at large? Thanks. ...

Maybe it's the corporate firewall. Keep the feedback coming, gang! We really need to know how widespread this problem is.

New forums choking?

Hey, are any of you out there experiencing delays on the new FamilySearch Wiki forums at http://forums.familysearchsupport.org/index.php ? At Church Headquarters we're experiencing big delays in posting and in reading threads. I'd love some feedback about the experience of people in the field. Thank...

The usability team voted to delete it. The nav box needed simplification and genealogists weren't using the random page link.

Cutover of this forum to familysearchsupport.org

The test of vBulletin on this instance has been great for the FamilySearch Wiki community. The Research Support team has tested the vBulletin software as moderators and really like the tool. We're now ready to begin the next phase of FamilySearch Wiki -- to offer forums that are integrated with the ...

ritcheymt, I gave you one possible solution that I know would do exactly what you are looking for. Have you checked it out yet? Just curious... Yes, I checked out the alternate apps you recommended. Unfortunately, the first compares unfavorably to vBulletin and other apps we're testing (for a quick...

How to tell if a question has been answered

Research Support -- the team I manage that is creating wiki.familysearch.org -- is using our FamilySearch Wiki forum here to test out vBulletin's features and determine whether it can effectively suit the needs of Church members worldwide in getting advice on how to find their ancestors. Currently F...

Usergroup Time Change Problem

I've been informed that we're going to have to push back the user group meeting back to 2:00-3:00 for the time being. We were double booked with another group that is scheduled to be in the room during the 1:30-2:00 time slot. We'll just have to keep our meetings short for now and get out of there b...

You're welcome

I'm not sure who on our development team did this, but you're welcome. (I'm guessing it was Chris Johnson.) That's the main reason we made this forum -- to get good feedback from folks like you, and to show when we responded to it so users would know that we were listening to their suggestions.

Redirects for place name changes

I converted Konitz, Westpreußen, Preußen, Germany page to a latitude / longitude page name to see how it would work. You can see that Konitz has a rich and disputed jurisdictional history. I think this method will better avoid offending people (e.g., what will you name the Formosa page). See: https...
