So, I'm doing some research into the Ward Missionary account and something just isn't making sense...

To help me solve this problem, I would really like to go back to our March 1st backup and see exactly what the reports say so I can wrap my mind around this.

What would be the best way to do this? I have the .bak file... but on March 1st 2009 we didn't have MLS 3.1, we just had MLS 3 (not sure of the exact version).

I'm EXTREMELY nervous about messing up the MLS install on the church computer and I was wondering if I should do something else... e.g. install MLS 3.1 in a separate directory on the same computer and use the secondary install as a test bed for my March 1 backup...

Is that even possible?

Or should I just do the following

Log in to MLS

Create a backup

Restore the March 1st backup

Print my reports

Restore to the backup created in step 2

Is that safe? Is it hard? I suppose I can test the backup, restore, print, restore process on my home computer with the test data... maybe I'll give that a go and see if it works (note: TEST data only...)

Thanks~!

The login uses LDS Account credentials. Once logged in, you can view locations of all ward members. Clerks have additional tasks available, such as updating or verifying the geocoded locations and a task called "Add households to emergency response categories" which seems like it would be very useful. Another fun link is locations of all church owned facilities (temples, storehouses, seminaries, etc.)

Will write more later - time to beta test! :D

Just a heads up to everyone using MLS 3.1 with test data: be careful about making financial changes, particularly creating Expenses.

Due to an unfortunate change in the way MLS handles test data, such transactions will remain in limbo forever. That means that to exit or log off from MLS, you will have to do the following every time you want to exit or logoff:

At the prompt about untransmitted expenses, click Continue.

At the prompt about untransmitted checks being rejected, click Continue.

Confirm that you want to exit or log off.

At the prompt telling you that finance data has changed, click OK.

At the prompt to save the backup file, click Cancel.

For previous versions of MLS, only step 3 was necessary, since you could do the simulated Send/Receive, which would clear the necessary flags. But in MLS 3.1, the ability to do a simulated Send/Receive was removed, and now you are simply told "Send/Receive is not available for demo units." So if you ever create an expesne, you are faced with 5 clicks to exit instead of 1, every single time.

I reported this bug on November 15, but it obviously wasn't fixed for the release. I know the set of users of demo data is relatively small, but I find this quite disappointing.

I've created a custom report, but it lists all positions a person is called to and is ugly and hard to read. I'm sure I could copy/paste into a spreadsheet, but I'd like to avoid having to redo work each time a presidency changes.

LDS Labs Overview

LDS Labs is a testing environment for the Church’s most recent Internet offerings. The site helps developers and project stakeholders gather feedback on proposed products as well as new feature possibilities for existing products.

Features in development may be put in the Labs environment allowing approved users to preview and give feedback. Some features may move to a broader beta phase after successful testing in Labs.

How can I get access to LDS Labs?

Access to LDS Labs is available to Church members who have an LDS Account, who request access to LDS Labs.

LDS Account

LDS Account is a single user name and password for any person who interacts with online LDS Church resources.

To obtain an LDS Account, visit the Register for an LDS Account page. Members of the Church will need their membership record number (MRN) and birth date. If you are temple endowed, you can find your MRN on the back of your recommend. Otherwise, ask your ward or branch clerk for your Individual Ordinance Summary.

Currently access to LDS Labs is limited to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

If you are a member of the Church and you don’t know your membership information do not sign up as a non-member; only members who sign up with their MRN will be granted access to Labs. If you mistakenly signed up as a non-member, you can sign into LDS Account and click on the Membership tab and enter your MRN and birth date.

Request an LDS Labs Account

After obtaining an LDS Account, Church members should request access to the LDS Labs environment by sending an e-mail to labs@ldschurch.org. Be sure to include your LDS Account user name in your request message.

We encourage you to sign up for Labs and send us feedback!

In my urgent tasks, I have one that says "Some members need to have their record numbers recorded."

I've looked at this a number of times but haven't been able to do anything for the majority of names on the list. Most do not appear on the donor list or (if I remember correctly) on the membership list. The few that did appear have been cleared off the list, but I still have 50+ names. I'm a new clerk and I'm thinking this one has been in the system for a while.

Can anyone fill me in on how to do this? What am I missing?
Thanks,

Hi all,

I am part of a newly formed stake. Currently we have no stake technology specialist, so I'm hoping to get some help on this forum.

This week the stake gave our ward a new computer and I have been trying to set it up. I found the mls.lds.org link and have installed MLS and the security software found there.

The trouble I am having is that I can't log into MLS on the new computer. All the usernames are showing up, but passwords are not functioning for any of the accounts.

If I can't log in to MLS, how can I reset any of the passwords? Any suggestions you can provide or link would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find much information on my own and my frustration is growing.

Guys, this latest MLS that was released this weekend totally screwed up the Copy to File feature. The data isn't in any remotely readable form when I copy it into Excel now.

When looking at the file, there are newlines everywhere (after almost every field) and there is some \tX\tX code in there.

Can we get this fixed quick? My Android application relies on this as well as other automated Home Teaching applications that I use on my Windows 7 machine.

I don't care if you need to change the format, but at least make it a format that is reasonable for me to read with my applications.
Thanks,

I am a district computer specialist in a rural area. The clerk PC in a branch 50 miles away will not allow us to log into Windows XP as CLERK, which has been their standard username since I installed the PC about 4 years ago. As far as I can tell, nobody has attempted to change the password for the CLERK user.

I visited the site today, as I was unable to diagnose the problem via e-mails with the branch clerk.

I have searched this site for information related to this problem and could find none.

There is a spooky (or should I say "phishy") aspect to our problem. If I purposely put in a known bad password, I get the expected WinXP error message about making sure the CapsLock is off. However, if I enter the formerly good password, I get the following message in an info box entitled "Logon Message":

Code:

[yellow !-triangle symbol]
Your account has been disabled. Please see your system
[OK button]

I have not seen this particular error message before. And yes, it indeed doesn't have anything after the word "system", no noun, no punctuation, etc. This sets off my "Danger, Will Robinson" alarm. Could we have gotten a malware infection of some kind? The people who use the PC say they haven't connected to anything but the MLS send/receive changes facility. However, I suppose it's possible that somebody might have infected the PC with a USB stick, but I thought Symantec Anti-virus was supposed to keep that from happening.

I tried booting a Linux live CD, mounting sda1 (the Windows C: drive), and looking at the boot directory, but didn't find anything obvious there. Unfortunately, the Linux distribution I happened to have with me didn't have an anti-virus scanner or rootkit detector on it, so I wasn't able to check for them (I thought it did. Oh, well, time to put a different CD in my church bag...).

Is this error message legitimate, and if so, is there some other way of logging into Windows XP?

If not, should I just take the Desktop 5.5 CD-ROM up there, do a reinstall, update MLS to v.3.0.2, update SAV, and update data from their most recent backup? (I wouldn't want to update to v.3.1 in that process, as they weren't running it when the system became unusable; we can do that update later.)

Thankx in advance for any useful suggestions or info.

There is a new troop leadership position in the BSA called "troop webmaster" (see http://www.lds-scouts.org/Resources/...drshpPosns.pdf ). It is described as this:

Quote:

"The troop webmaster is responsible for maintaining the troop’s website. He should make sure that information posted on the website is correct and up to date and that members’ and leaders’ privacy is protected. A member of the troop committee may assist him with his work."

A scout in our ward's scout troop was given this leadership position and wants to start putting together the troop website. I have done some Google searching a found a few LDS scout troop sites. Some seem to own their own domain names.

I think a good troop website would have photos, calendars, achievement rosters, event information, and the like. However, my concern is the privacy of the scouts. Would it be appropriate to build such a site and list only first names of the scouts? Or maybe the site should not be public and should require registration and username/password? Or does that make it too cumbersome for any of the scouts or their parents?

What would be our hosting options? Google pages seems to be a good starting point. I don't think the official lds.org ward web site gives enough options to build a troop site - it seems very limited in that regard.

With this new leadership position "troop webmaster", I believe there will be a lot of LDS troops asking these same questions soon ...

We have an issue in our ward with temple recommends not showing as activated. The problem first occurred with one brother several months ago. His temple recommend kept showing in MLS as expired. When we inquired he reminded us that he renewed his recommend with both the ward & stake AND that he has gone to the temple with his new recommend. In other words, the temple computer OKd his recommend and he was admitted. However, to this day his recommend still shows in MLS as expired. A call to to church HQ resulted in them informing me (bishop) that the stake simply never scanned the recommend. That didn't seem plausible since he was admitted to the temple. We have never been able to resolve this situation.

Now, just in the last week, we have discovered approximately 7 more ward members with the exact same problem. The bishopric interviewed them and sent them to the stake for interviews. After visiting with several of these members today at church, they all acknowledged that they not only received their stake interview but also had been to the temple with their new recommends. MLS is still showing them with expired recommends and they have not showed up on the activation list.

Before returning to church HQ with this problem, has anyone seen or heard of this before? Are there measures we can take at ward level to try and alleviate this problem.

I greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Sorry if this has been asked. I searched. I really did. (How many posts start out that way?)

When you go into the "Help Center" of NFS, there is an optional tab at the top called "personal assistance." When you click it on, it brings up the name, phone number and email address for the ward family history consultants.

That is pretty cool, but the information is incorrect for my ward. How do you change that information? I contacted the tech help line at NFS, and they said it had to be changed by the ward clerk. I contacted the ward clerk, and he checked everywhere he could and could not find where we had designated the wrong FH consultants. So:

1. How do you remove a FH consultant who has been released, and

2. How do you correct the email address if it has changed?

Thanks.
