Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) Upgrade Puts New Tools into the Hands of Leaders Twitter Facebook Print E-mail
Written by Sharon Howell
Tuesday, 22 December 2015

A recent update to Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) gives leaders even more tools for ministering to members in their ward and stake. This update continues the transition of functionality from MLS to LCR.

LCR is available to members of stake presidencies and bishoprics, stake and ward clerks, executive secretaries, ward council members (including their counselors and secretaries), as well as home and visiting teaching supervisors and visiting teaching coordinators. The new features offer easier access and more intuitive integration.

New or enhanced functionality includes:

  • Ability for ward clerks to conduct membership audits from the “Membership Audit” link under the “Membership” menu.
  • A consolidated report for stake clerks of the most recent ward membership audits, with audit details accessed by date from a “Membership Audit” link under the “Reports” menu.
  • Ability for the ward clerk to edit meeting times from the “Unit Settings” link under the “Other” menu.
  • Improved the “Send a Message” feature under the “Applications” menu for bishops, branch presidencies, stake and district presidencies, and mission presidencies (including clerks and executive secretaries) to send email messages to stake and ward members.
  • A new quarterly seminary and institute attendance report viewable under the “Quarterly Attendance” link under the “Reports” menu.
  • Ability for High Priest group leaders and Elders quorum presidencies to view each other’s home teaching data from the “Quorum/Auxiliary” drop down list.
  • The inclusion of unit designations for members in search results by stake leaders.
  • The main menu bar remains visible at the top when users scroll down the page.

The LCR product team welcomes your comments on the most recent changes and enhancements. When logged into LCR, use the “Do You Have Feedback on This Page?” link at the bottom of the web page. If you experience any problems using LCR, please work with your ward or stake clerk who can then contact the Global Service Center if needed.

Are we going to be able to record ordinations, baptisms, and blessings soon? That is the only thing I have to do still in the clerks office.

I do miss custom fields, we have had to resort to Google DOCs and maintain the member list in both places. I hated the way the MLS app worked for custom fields, but at least it was integrated. We used custom fields to track prayers and speakers.

# Craig Mills Whitlock 2016-01-04 16:13
I also agree that the ability to do custom lists on LCR would be very helpful. I have to run to the Clerk office every time the Bishop wants a new list, like a list of all the in actives in the ward.

K.C.

Yes, the ability to record ordinances will be added in a release currently scheduled for around Q2 of 2016. We are still determining if and how we will allow custom fields in LCR, no specific plans at this point.

# Destin Lee Smith 2016-04-03 18:09
this might stray form the subject some but is anyone having trouble finding names in MLS to record ordinances but the individuals names are in lcr

# Justin Krebs 2016-04-04 10:32
Destin,

Please have the ward clerk contact the GSC for assistance with this issue: http://lds.org/support-membership.

# Heidi Alyssa Stark 2015-12-29 16:15
I wish we could enter our Relief Society rolls from here. It would be so much easier than doing it manually and then having to pass it on to the clerk.

# Catherine Cox Ballantyne 2016-09-21 09:29
Concur! Is this on the list of must haves or nice-to-haves?

# Charles Loren Peterson 2015-12-30 12:20
When will LCR be available to Stake Council Members. I get requests for the ability to view Primary Children from the Stake Primary and Young Women from our Stake YW.

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-08 17:16
Charles,

In a release coming up in the next few weeks, high councilors and stake auxiliary presidencies, including secretaries, will be able to access the following pages: Quarterly Report, Unit Statistics, and Key Indicators. We currently don't have plans to expand access to them beyond these at this point. See the LCR FAQ "Why don’t stake auxiliary leaders and high councilors have access to LCR?" on this page for more details on this: https://www.lds.org/help/support/leader-and-clerk-resources-faqs.

# Steve Summers 2016-04-30 18:25
I am the stake clerk and I get many requests for lists for Stake council members as well. It is true that ward presidencies have primary responsibility for individual members, but stake leaders have valid reasons to access this data. For example, it is valuable to a stake primary presidency to have a list of 7-year olds to plan for Stake baptisms. The policy to restrict this data just creates unnecessary work for the stake clerk.

# Justin Krebs 2016-05-01 08:23
Steve,

Thank you for your feedback. I will pass it along for consideration.

# Michael Curtis McKean 2015-12-30 12:37
I would like to add a vote to be able to have an electronic (updateable) New/Returning Member Report. That way the whole Ward Council can view/edit without having to maintain multiple paper copies.

# Jon Pugmire 2016-01-19 15:48
Yes! If there was a way that they could be saved on LCR and perhaps incorporated into the Progress records that are displayed from the missionary's area book or something similar that would be awesome!

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-19 16:13
This is being considered but no timeline at this point.

I am enjoying all the new updates, and here it comes...
Why was the notification (email) function removed from the Calendar??
Is it ever going to be added back??

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-08 17:19
Valerie,

This functionality wasn't removed from the Calendar. Please use the feedback link within the Calendar to report the issue if you are still experiencing it.

These are good suggestions for improving the app. Developers are continually evaluating and prioritizing improvements to the interface and your end-user comments are considered seriously. Thanks,

Now that Home and Visiting Teaching can be organised and tracked through LCR are there plans to automatically feed these figures into the Quarterly Report? At present it seems the figures are collated in LCR but then have to manually be conveyed to the clerk for inclusion in the report - which is also done in LCR. It would make sense to be able to 'submit' the figures and have them included in the quarterly report.

When will I be able to report my visiting teaching visits directly through the app?

And, then, separately, trust that LCR will compile directly to the quarterly reports?

# Lee 2016-01-10 17:34
The ability to view our budget would be helpful. Any plans to add that functionality?

Lee,

Yes, this is currently planned for later in 2016.

# Andrew John Davey 2016-01-13 14:09
Will we be able to add attendance directly to reports instead of going to print out and hand over.

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-13 14:10
Andrew,

Recording attendance directly in LCR is being considered but no timeline at this point.

# Josh Kelsey 2016-01-17 08:37
Is there any consideration given to separating out and adding limitation to the permissions for calling changes? Currently the full ability appears to be given to auxillary leaders, and it has created some issues when others are trying to change things, and inadvertently make a mistake?

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-19 10:27
Josh,

Quorum and auxiliary leaders can only update callings for their quorum or auxiliary. We don't plan to change that. If there are issues with changes being made, those issues should be coordinated and resolved within the ward.

# Jason Poulter 2016-01-17 17:05
Is there going to be the ability to take attendance directly online, instead of printing attendance rolls?

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-19 10:28
Jason,

This is being considered but no timeline at this point.

# James Alexander Graham Perry 2016-01-19 06:32
Will there be a way to receive missionary statistical reports via LCR resources? E.g. leaders receiving weekly missionary figures, etc. I would find it useful to receive weekly reports via LCR to discuss within units or at a stake level.

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-19 10:30
James,

This ability already exists for ward and stake leaders in LCR. See this link: https://lds.org/mls/mbr/missionary/progress-record

I just tried the link and I received Access Denied message. I am logged in as a Ward Clerk.

# Justin Krebs 2016-03-01 16:21
If your Ward Clerk calling has been recorded properly as a standard calling in LCR, you should be able to access this page.

# Michael William McIlwaine 2016-03-01 22:02
Justin
I just tried again and I'm still denied access. I have checked our organisation on LCR and I am listed as Ward Clerk (No asterisk). How can I get this fixed or check its correct?

# Justin Krebs 2016-03-02 08:30
The Missionary Progress Record is only available in wards and stakes within missions that are using the Area Book app which is currently limited to select missions in the United States and Japan. Here is a article that explains how the Area Book app is being rolled out: http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/church-expands-use-of-digital-devices-for-missionary-work.

# Steven John Asvitt 2016-01-20 07:38
The Bishop, Ward Clerk, and Membership Clerk can request and send out membership records. However, bishopric counselors cannot. Why not? This comes up frequently when we are meeting and it would be very expedient if the counselors could request and send records.

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-20 09:51
Steven,

The ward clerk and assistant ward clerk for membership have the stewardship for requesting and moving records out, and that is why bishopric counselors don't have access to do it.

# Steven John Asvitt 2016-01-20 10:09
Thanks. The assistant clerk for finance has a stewardship for the financial records, yet the counselors can do anything the assistant clerk for finance can, correct? So counselors are entrusted with a full stewardship over all financial activities, but only a limited stewardship over membership activities? Just seems a little strange...

# Justin Krebs 2016-01-20 10:25

I have passed along your feedback for consideration. Thanks!

Is there any way to add the district numbers to the Household Assignments Report? Our high priest HT'g list is extensive and this would make finding which district a particular family is in.

# Justin Krebs 2016-02-02 10:55
John,

Thanks for the suggestion, I have passed it along for consideration.

# Adrian Joseph Mazur 2016-02-16 01:48
Is there a way to print membership records grouped by Head of Household? This was useful in MLS for families where the husband and wife has different surnames.
Also, in LCR, individuals are listed by surname which can make it difficult to identify families especially where there is a common surname (e.g. Smith, Nguyen, etc)

# Justin Krebs 2016-02-17 09:17
Adrian, I have passed your feedback along, also, LCR 3.1.2 which will be released in the next month includes the ability to view the Member List by household. In addition, in the current version, you can also print the membership records by going to the member profile screen and clicking on the print icon.

# Louann Henriksen Hansen 2016-02-18 11:01
When entering visiting teaching results, it now brings up a box that says "contacted" "not contacted" and mark as not recorded. What does the mark as not recorded do?

# Justin Krebs 2016-02-18 11:53
Louann,

If you’ve already marked a sister as visited or not visited, “mark as not recorded” will reset the value to the empty circle meaning the visit hasn’t been recorded. Thanks!

# John Zinnick 2016-02-18 23:37
Will there be a option to export the HT information in a spreadsheet format?

# Justin Krebs 2016-02-19 08:35
John,

In support of the Church’s data privacy policy, the ability to export member data from LCR will not be provided.

# Jason Lee Wilcox 2016-02-22 03:12

Can the "Send a Message" feature be made available to Stake Assistant Executive Secretary. It's a standard calling from the drop-down menu but the person holding that calling gets "access denied" message.

# Mark Sheridan Clark 2016-03-24 11:27
Technology Specialists were told they would be responsible for helping with items such as navigation with LCR last year. I tried to download it back then to learn and was refused. Haven't tried downloading it since, is this app that easy to use? Are all Stakes using this app? No one has asked me for help and I'm differently a go to person. ;)

# Justin Krebs 2016-03-24 12:05
Mark,

Stake Technology Specialists are not responsible for training on record-keeping tools. The Help Center gives more details on what Stake Technology Specialists are responsible for: https://www.lds.org/help/support/meetinghouse-technology-roles-and-responsibilities?lang=eng#4

# Dan Dotson 2016-04-05 04:44
My wife has a calling that requires a report be printed out periodically. I was thinking that it would be handy to be able to "publish" specific reports to specific members or callings. Where does that fit?

# Justin Krebs 2016-04-05 07:06
Reports can be printed out of MLS or LCR and provided to members as authorized by the bishop.

# Jan Swain 2016-04-16 22:37
I am on a mission in another country. I have been called to be Young Women's president. I have lds tools for my home stake online but we haven't been able to view the current branch we are serving in, even with the callings being recorded.

What should we do? It would be so much easier to find the members with the app.

# Justin Krebs 2016-04-18 15:34
Jan,

Please send an email with the details to: LDSToolsSupport @ldschurch.org. Thanks!

# Kris A. Brinkerhoff 2016-05-01 17:24
I am hoping for an update I requested a while ago--that a member can easily lookup their home teaching or visiting teaching families/sisters. This way it can be automatically found by each companionship. It would be like a link by the callings a person has in a ward or stake. Thank you for the consideration.

# Justin Krebs 2016-05-02 13:13
Kris,

Thank you for the feedback. Allowing home and visiting teachers to see their own assignments as well as allowing households and sisters to see who is assigned to them is being considered but there is no timeline at this point.

Thanks!

Per the feature in the feature list, namely, "Ability for High Priest group leaders and Elders quorum presidencies to view each other’s home teaching data from the “Quorum/Auxiliary” drop down list" how come the Relief Society President cannot also see the High Priest and EQ home teaching data?

My experience as a Relief Society President is that it is EXTRAORDINARILY helpful in ministering to families for all three leaders [RSP, High Priest Group leader, EQ Pres.] to be able to see each other's assignments & home teaching/visiting teaching records.

When will the Relief Society President be able to see the Home Teaching records? When will the HPGL and the EQP be able to see the visiting teaching records?

# Steve Jones 2016-05-02 09:42
Stake clerks are responsible to train ward clerks. (see https://www.lds.org/help/support/meetinghouse-technology-roles-and-responsibilities?lang=eng#4 5.1,2), however we cannot access some of the training materials for ward clerks to know what is there and to help guide them. Can access to ward clerk training be granted to stake clerks?

# Justin Krebs 2016-05-02 13:43
Steve,

Stake clerks should have access to the same Help Center articles that ward clerks have: https://www.lds.org/help/support/record-keeping. If you have an example where that is not the case, please let us know so we can investigate.

# Amber Brown 2016-05-18 18:28
I would love it if there was a fill in form for Bishop's Storehouse orders. One that could be sent to bishop immediately afterward. Will that ever be available? It would make Relief Society President's responsibilitie s so much easier to handle

# Justin Krebs 2016-05-19 16:11
Amber,

We are working on a solution for this that should be ready in 2017.

Thanks!

# David Michael Garner 2016-05-23 08:23
In the latest update, EQ Presidents no longer have the ability to Manage Callings from LCR. Is there a reason for this? The feature is still available to SS Presidents even though they can't typically call Sunday School Teachers. EQ Presidents can extend calling within their quorum with the permission of the Bishop.

# Justin Krebs 2016-05-23 08:41
David,

EQ Presidents should still have access, please make sure that your position selector in LCR is set to EQ President if you have multiple callings.

# David Michael Garner 2016-05-23 16:11
I did, that's how I know it's not available. SS President has Manage Callings available, but EQ President does not. It may be an issue with the May 12, 2016 update. Any advice on who to contact?

# Sathya 2016-05-24 06:06
If Home teaching and visiting teaching report can be reported thru lds tools online instead of MLS, it will be easy for reporting the EQ and RS leaders.

I see that ward leaders can electronically submit Melchizedek Priesthood ordination recommendations to the stake. Is there more information on this process and what the flow is?

Just a comment on MP ordination recording. As a stake clerk I recorded an ordination for a new Elder. After hitting the submit button it would be nice to get some positive feedback that the action was accepted. Not getting any feedback I submitted the request again and it appears that the member's ordination for Elder was successful the first time I hit the submit button and since I submitted it again the member was now ordained to a high priest. I tried to change (delete) the 2nd ordination record I get a warning that church HQ has to review the change. A little feedback on the first ordination, clear screen, or something would help. Thanks.

The ability to export individual info by field would add great flexibility to building needed xml sheets. The current household only export is very clumsy. I'm about to build my own data extraction tool if one is not provided.

The Ward MLS system allows raw data exports from the Custom Reports, It is quite powerful in selecting exactly what you want to a file which is .csv format. I use it all the time.

A great feature to help with callings would be a member calling history. It could include the calling name and the length of time in that calling. The history would be a permanent part of their membership record.

I am in a stake presidency. I used to have an android phone and could look up home teaching % for the HP and E. I switched to an I phone and can only see a % for the whole ward and it is incorrect. I can still login to the computer and get them but wonder if I am missing something on my phone.

It would be nice to have lesson scheduling functionality where certain scheduled lessons or even events could be pushed from the stake down to the ward.
