Salt Lake City, USA was the epicenter, but the scope of the LDSTech Conference was global, with many topics of interest to members world-wide.

If you have a technology-related calling, or want to become a better user of Church technology in your present calling, the videos are very informative.

Plan to watch and make notes of things that will help you and share what you learn with others who may benefit from your insights. Here are a few highlights:

Did you know there is a place to submit feedback on meetinghouse technology issues? Church leaders are sensitive to user experiences and they are working on solutions for the challenges presented by languages, travel, and cultural diversity. Check out “Meetinghouse Technology – What, Why, How?” with Bret Bassett. Bret will tell you where to find training and what the Church is doing to support members world-wide.

Did you know you can now view your membership and ordinance data in LDS Tools? A recent update has added more data and reports for home and visiting teaching, new abilities with NFC (near-field communications) on iOS devices, and easier texting and email from both iOS and Android. Justin Krebs, product manager for LDS Tools, will tell you what’s on the horizon in the “LDS Tools App: What’s New? What’s Next?” For example, use an organizational list to send a group message the next time you need to contact members as a group.

Did you know that next year there will be a big change in satellite receivers in meetinghouses in North America? This is only the beginning of changes to equipment and electronics in buildings. It will have a ripple effect down to individual members who use Church technology. If you use audio/visual equipment in the meetinghouse, watch the presentation by Scott Poulsen entitled “Satellite Systems for Stake Technology Specialists.”

Did you know that a lot of problems with ward and stake calendars are due to not having the Calendar app at set up correctly? To get the most from the calendar, buildings must be assigned by the Facilities Management (FM) group, stake leaders must activate all the standardized calendars, and members must subscribe to calendars and turn on notifications. Regan Willmore and Jeff Nelson will show you how in “ Calendar Updates” many helpful tips for scheduling events and keeping informed about activities.

Did you know assistant technology specialists (aTS) can be male or female, 12 years old or older? The relatively new Coordinating Council Area Technology Specialists (ATS) callings are helping members become more self-reliant with technology. This information was introduced by Richard Brown from the Field Management Office of the Church in “The Role of Technology Specialists…” If you can see yourself as a technology missionary, contact Elder and Sister Petersen, ATS Mission Coordinators, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This was a great conference. I love the openness of development. It's helped me address frustrations and concerns of those in my area. There are clips from the conference I'd like to use in training materials I'm putting together. Where can I download these videos? Are they on YouTube? I know how to download them from there.

I agree, this was a great conference. I've asked about enabling downloads for videos and YouTube and was told this is under discussion for the future but not for this conference at this time. Thank you for asking.
