An article in the Mormon Newsroom recently noted changes in missionary work as digital media becomes more common throughout the world.

After going through a pilot program of 30 missions and 6500 missionaries – primarily in the US and Japan – the mobile device program will be expanded to 162 missions (and 35,000 missionaries by the end of 2015) all using iPad minis, cell phones, and online chat in their work.

The article highlights a video by Elder David F. Evans and an announcement about missionary technology from the First Presidency and Quorum of Twelve Apostles.

Not being a Tech Geek, but I am a Cheap. When selecting the tablet and OS why use the IPad Mini vs. an Android. I have a daughter preparing to serve a mission and know that I can purchase a Samsung 8" for less than the Ipad. Please Explain

From Paul Scherbel:
Great question, Brother Gregory! The iPad mini purchased in a specific manner is the only device that currently allows for the Church’s approved device settings to be automatically applied and enforced, even if the device is reset. We continue to evaluate other less expensive options. Devices should not be purchased for missionaries until instructed in a call packet or by a mission president.

I know this is a very old post, but I'm trying to get my mission Ipad to become a standard Ipad. I was told there was a way to do this, but not how. Where could I find out how?

This is likely not possible, but you can send an email to mssdevicesuppor t@ldschurch.org to find out for sure.
