Since LDS Tools for iOS version 2.1.1 was released on October 19, 2012, many users have been unable to update their LDS Tools data on Sundays.

We have been working on a fix and ask for your patience as we work to address this issue. We will be releasing LDS Tools for iOS version 2.1.2 to the app store in the next week or so, which should resolve this issue.

In the meantime, this issue will likely occur again this next Sunday, November 11. To avoid potential issues, plan to update your LDS Tools data prior to Sunday.

November 10, 2012 Update

We just released 2.1.2 to the app store. Here are the release notes for 2.1.2:

  • Resolved issues that were preventing the app from successfully syncing on Sundays
  • Added a new feature to preserve current data when performing a sync in case the sync isn’t successful
  • Added support for the following languages: Chinese, French, Japanese, and Korean
  • Resolved a few issues that were causing the app to crash occasionally

It seems to be an issue on the Android version as well.

I had this problem with Android 4.1 and 4.2. This isn't just an ios problem

It is the IOS version that is causing problems for everyone else, at least that's what I understand is being communicated.

Is this why, as executive secretary I do not have access to the various reports for the bishop, such as interview schedules and the like?

Jack if you do not see the same thing as a bishop something is wrong. You are either entered into MLS wrong, or something has happened to mess you up. Call Local Unit Support - Let your clerk know of the problem you have and have him get it fixed or you'll need to call Local Unit Support to fix your access on the backend (likely the CDOL)

Unless you are using Android and the Bishop is using IOS, then yes, that is expected, the Church started developing on IOS long before Android was solid/stable/had enough attraction to start working on. It's getting close.

I have an I Touch, and my Bishop has an Android. Both are being affected by the outage, or issue with LDS Tools. Is the Android team getting the same update?

# John Shaw 2012-11-07 16:21
Be it known unto all the world that there is a central service that is providing updates to ALL versions of the LDS Tools. When there is bad programming and the service spins out of control, it affects everyone, all users of that service. Think of it like Netflix... I can use Roku, Windows, Linux, IOS, Android... If there is an outage to the service (for whatever reason) everyone is affected.

I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 6.0.1 the other day. Now I can't update LDS Tools data (yes today, in the middle of the week). It starts to download the data then stops and the app shuts down. This wasn't a problem before the update to the new iOS.

I tried deleting and reinstalling LDS Tools and that didn't help. Also shut down and started phone. Still no luck with data updates it is just blank.

Are others having the same problem? Ideas?

I am not aware of the issue occurring during the week. We have submitted the 2.1.2 version for iOS to the app store and are waiting approval. Once it is available, you may try it and see if the issue persists.

Thanks!

I just updated to 2.1.2 in my iphone (ios 6.0.1) and I still can't download any data (error message "Error Downloading"). I deleted the app from my phone, then reinstalled. Still not downloading, and it's obviously not Sunday. Any help?

Same problem I had with iPhone. I just tried it now with my phone and it finally worked. I did delete the app and restarted my phone then installed the app again. You may want to try the same with your iPad and see what that does.

An update 2.1.2 appeared in the apple app store last night. I assume this is the bug fix update.

Will these also be an update for Android?

I just updated the post with some information about the 2.1.2 update for LDS Tools iOS. This should hopefully address the issue tomorrow.

Re the questions about Android updates, I'm not sure, so let me check on that.

# Tom Johnson 2012-11-10 09:56
LDS Tools for Android did not directly contribute to the Sunday outages, so there was not a new release for it.

Will still not download data on an iPad 2 with iOS 6 on November 10.
I have deleted, rebooted, re-downloaded numerous times. before doing that it would just jump out of the app. Now it consistently gives a download error "unable to download some data, try again later. App has not worked on my iPad since version 2.1.0
appreciate any help you can provide.

Finally downloaded data on late Saturday evening, 11/10. Seems to be totally random - Like magic??

# David Wayne Larson 2012-11-10 11:28
Is there a website where we can download an earlier version, prior to 2.1.0?

I recently changed wards and when my records were transferred I see the new ward directory in LDS tools but my old stake calendar. I have cleared all data several times and updated but it is the same. Any ideas?

I have LDSTools 2.1.2 running on iPod Touch 3rd Gen with OS 5.1.1. I always keep WiFi off unless I need the internet.

If WiFi has been off for at least 15 minutes, and I tap on a member's record, I get this message "Error Downloading, Some information could not be downloaded, please try again later". (I was not downloading at the time, but I get the message anyway.) When I turn on WiFi, but not use it - then tap on LDSTools, then tap on a member's record, there is no error message. I then turn off WiFi, immediately tap on LDSTools, then tap on the member's record, and there is still no error message. But if I wait about 15 minutes (with WiFi still off), then tap on the member's record, I get the error message again.

With version 2.1.1, I had the same effect, unless members had a picture. When members had a picture there was never an error message. In version 2.1.2, the picture seems irrelevant. Can this be fixed? Thank you.

@Gregory, thanks for the input on the offline experience. That sounds pretty irritating to get that message on every member's record. I will work to get that remedied in the next version.

What about us guys who can't afford to upgrade to iphone 4 or 5. I have a iPhone 3 and I am limited to iOS 4.2.1 I had to remove the app, thinking that I can reinstall. When i tried, i find that this new version requires a higher iOS that I can't get. Now I have NO access to LDS Tools.

Is there a way to get the lower version that worked on OS 4.2.1???? PLEASE???

I am a Stk. Exec. Sec. and have an iPhone 4 (OS 5.1.1) with LDSTools 2.1.2. Still getting the same message: "Error Downloading, Some information could not be downloaded, please try again later". LDSTools worked ok with 2.1.1, except on Sundays. I did a re-install, now no data and no downloads.
If I can help let me know. Thanks

Have tried repeatedly to download information to LDS Tools and keep getting "error downloading try again later message." On Iphone 4S has lastest OS. Is there an answer to this problem?
I have tried all the helps nothing seems to work. It has been a great tool and is used often in my calling.

I don't work for the church and I'm not sure what troubleshooting you've already done, but this is what I would do:
Uninstall LDS Tools from your phone. It will also warn you that "Deleting LDS Tools will also delete all of its data." Tap Delete to delete the app and its data.
Then reinstall LDS Tools from the App Store. Hopefully that fixes the problem. If it still doesn't work, I'd restart my phone.
If it still doesn't work after a restart I'd try syncing LDS Tools from different Wifi networks to see if that helps.

Steve, try posting the problem in the LDSTech Forum if these responses don't solve the issue.

I tried your suggestion, and it still will not update, I get the error. Thanks for the suggestion.
