LDS Tools for iOS

LDS Tools 2.1.1 for iOS was released to the app store today.

Version 2.1.1 includes the following fixes and enhancements:

  • Added support for iOS 6 and iPhone 5
  • Improved performance and stability
  • Improved data (including calendar) download process
  • Added support for German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish languages
  • Added additional reports for leaders and clerks including Members With/Without Callings, Members Moved In, Temple Recommend Status, and Unit Statistics
  • Improved photo download and delete process (thumbnails are now "lazy loaded," which should create a better user experience)
  • Improved maps functionality (to accommodate the changes in iOS 6)
  • Added a new option to provide feedback
  • Updated the email address for support
  • Resolved several issues including crash on startup for some users

We will have another release in the coming weeks which will include adding support for the remaining Internet 9 languages.

Made mistake of trying to update today. Cannot get anything back. I have cleared data a dozen times, reloaded the entire app 4 or 5 times and tried to sync countless times. I'm at the end of my rope.

Ditto to the above comments. Uninstalling and re-installing does not work. The only way I could get back to a working version was to copy the the one I had backed up to my itunes account.

Mine has not been crashing like the above are saying...but when I was testing this app I seen there was list made for all of the detailed auxiliaries. I thought this new version would have that feature, I am unable to find it. You could see who all the Young Women are and where they lived. It was very helpful.

I loaded the new version on my iPad 2 last night and it worked and synced fine. I loaded it on my iPhone 4S this morning and it loads fine, but errors out on the sync and like those who have previously posted, I have no data. I'll hold off on another iPad sync until it works again on my iPhone. I'm sure they'll resolve it quickly on Monday.

I was able to install and download ward data on Oct. 19th. On the 21st the download of ward data stopped working and would error out or cause the iPhone app to crash.

When the app did work, I liked all of the new reports. As a Bishop, they are very helpful to have.

I have had the same problems as others have mentioned. Now all data is gone. This seems to happen each time an "update" is released. I will remove the app until I can see from other users that it is working.

I initially could use the app on my iPad until today when it suddenly stopped working. I downloaded the app to my iPhone as well but could never open it at all -- still can't use either one. Need them badly.

You should probably continue fixing the problem because some of us still can't get the app to log in here in Maine.

Can you check the calendar, on the ipad the times are 1 hour ahead the calendar is updating but the times are still an hour ahead

I have the same problem. lds.org accepts my username and password entered from the browsers on both my iPhone and computer, but not from the app.

I still can't log in with the app. Lds.org works fine with the computer and the member list is available that way. The app doesn't do anything other than try to log in.

This works fine on both my iPhone 5 and my iPad (both a 3rd gen and a 2nd gen) I did wipe the data then reloaded it (inside the app) and it works great. The New reports are very helpful.

I can't get inside the app to wipe any data. It won't log in to lds.org in the first place, and will do nothing but try.

I just wanted to add a note to this thread. Last Sunday there was a database cluster that went down, taking with it the web services that directory, calendar, and other applications use. The outage wasn't due to the 2.1.1 app release at all. Engineers have been investigating the problem to troubleshoot and prevent future outages from occurring. Thanks for your patience.

LDS Tools now requires iOS 4.3. my iphone is limited to 4.2.1

I had to remove the LDS Tools temporarily from my iPhone 3.

I attempted to reload it through iTunes but the updated version requires iOS 4.3

It is sad that those of us who try to be modest in our purchases of technology and don't jump on the next and greatest technology get left behind, even with LDS tools.

I can't afford a iPhone 4 or 5 just so I can get the LDS Tools for my Executive Secretary role.

Is it possible to have access somehow to get the version for iOS 4.2.1 so I can do my job without a big outlay of cash.

With 2.1.1, i have been able to change the passcode on my iPad using alpha-numeric characters but on my iPhone, changing the passcode will only allow numeric characters. (iPad 1 and iPhone 4)

Anyone notice that the map functionality is broken on IOS 6? If you click on a members address, it properly loads in the map program, however, if you click on the pin on the map to get directions to this location, only the name is carried over and not the address, so it can get directions to the address. You have to manually type in the address information. This use to work fine on the old version with the previous IOS.

I took the same steps on my iPad 3/iOS6 with the same results. I feel hobbled without this helpful app. Please fix!

Another week has gone by and it is still not working. But the times on the calendar is correct. So two weeks since it was introduced and it is still broken. Is any one in charge following this comment board? If so, please give us some updates. When is this expected to be fixed?

Broken... :( Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Didn't fix it. I tried clearing data, and redownloading. It shows that it is downloading, but takes a long time and crashes at the end. All my data is blank now... :( Please fix. BTW, I am using IOS6, unfortunately. It has been nothing but trouble...

Our entire household is bad. Same problems as above, but magnified. 2 iPad 3's during church. A Nokia 900 windows phone has the same issues, but the other windows phone works fine (same brand, same model).
We were thinking it was operator error again and we would have to answer to the grandchildren again.
Please let us keep some of our pride.

Updated app and now app crashes on iPhone wiht IOS6.
When I launch the app, I get the logo page, it sits there for 20-30 sec then dissappears.

Tried to synch; re-install - not working.

I assume this is an undocumented 'feature' for the updated IOS6 version? Hope you can resolve ASAP. Thanks!

The times for all of my recurring calendar events are correct in lds.org, but are 1 hour later in LDS Tools on my iPhone, but only after Nov 1 .
Example: 7:00 pm every Thursday in lds.org shows up as 8:00 pm in LDS Tools after Nov 1
Could be something to do with the switch back from Daylight Savings Time on Nov 1.

FYI - I had the same problem before upgrading to 2.1.1. I hoped the upgrade would fix it.

FYI#2 - I tried emailing this problem to ldstools-ios@ldsmail.net from within LDS Tools, but I got an error message back saying the email account has been disabled.

I am able to use version 2.1.1 with the exception of the "Search" function. No matter what I put in, it says "No Results". The only way I can find members now is to scroll through the list by last name. If I only have their first name, it is next to impossible to find them. Please fix the "Search" function.

I have experienced the same thing, but am able to recover after reinstalling LDS Tools and then syncing. If I then attempt a second re-sync, I lose all the data again at which time I have to start all over again. I have also noticed that if I have a strong Internet connection when attempting to sync, it seems to make a difference.

I initially had the same problem on my iPad 3 (for lack of a better real name), logged out of the app, shut down and restarted the iPad, downloaded data without a hitch and have been using it for over a week. My wish is that it would offer more membership data (record) as is offered on 'Ward Tools' (which I under stand has been asked to cease and desist). As a bishop this information is valuable to have at hand when in bishopric, ward council, etc.

Mine crash too. The first time the app open then closed itself. The next time it open without any members listed. I deleated the app and reloaded it. It had the members listed this time, so I hope the problems mentioned before have all been resolved. Thanks for your hard work and support.

We are currently working on the 1.6 release of Android which will allow Bishoprics, branch presidencies, and stake and district presidencies, as well as clerks and executive secretaries, to download additional membership data for their units. The 1.6 release will likely occur in the next month or so.

Great tool. I've had good luck with it. I'd encourage you to continue to consider rights issues for Stake and Ward Executive Secretaries. In this role, there is a lot of need for detailed access to support a Stake Presidency or Bishop. This access is provided in MLS, but it would also be very convenient on LDS Tools. Thank you for your good work!

Why has development on android stalled out? Many of us are left without options since other developers had to remove their products. The android version of this app is no better than the web interface. IOS may be big in the US, but not in the rest of the world.

Problem is not fixed as of today. Lost all data. Uninstalled, re-installed, cleared all data, performed re-sync and Havi nothing. I have had problems with every version of this application but have not Diid airs suitable alternative.
Today the feedback I sent via email bounced back as undeliverable.
Very disappointing. How will we be notified that this app is functional again?

This is NOT an IOS 6 problem. The program won't work on my iPhone (IOS 6) or my iPad 2 (IOS 5). Both work the same. There is no data. I have deleted and reloaded. I'll keep trying.

After updating the app today the only data I can see is the calendar. No ward or stake listings. Director and Callings error out when downloading . Tried clearing data, reinstalling the app. Nothing works. I am the HP Group Leader and use this app constantly. Please fix this ASAP!!! I am on iPhone 4 iOS 5.1.1.

I'm on an iPhone 4 - have NO idea what update I'm on. Whatever, I have nothing. No lists, no directory, nothing. I had "units" until I took somebody's advice and cleared the data. Now, nothing at all. I really LIKED this app before. What in heaven's name did they change it for?

I'm only writing because I actually NEEDED the directory today. The only other one travels with my husband. So I have no way of finding ANYBODY because the office seems to think everybody has a directory on their computer. I am not feeling the sabbath today, except for the biblical gnashing of teeth.

Data won't download...at all. I'm on iOS 6 with an iPhone 4s. Ever since I did the update to 2.1.1 I have not been able to read an ounce of data. I have cleared the data, re-downloaded the app, etc. Very frustrating because before this was a GREAT app!

Tried syncing it this morning (4 Nov) and I lost all data. Deleted the app and tried to re-install it and all I was able to see was the calendars. Tried to resync it and lost all the data. Removed it, rebooted the device and now it hangs when trying to install the app.
Can you please re-release the older version that worked so we can use that?

I have tried to download it 10 times and when i sync it, it looses the directory and still do not have the calendar....

LDS Tools now requires iOS 4.3. my iphone is limited to 4.2.1

I had to remove the LDS Tools temporarily from my iPhone 3.

I attempted to reload it through iTunes but the updated version requires iOS 4.3

It is sad that those of us who try to be modest in our purchases of technology and don't jump on the next and greatest technology get left behind, even with LDS tools.

I can't afford a iPhone 4 or 5 just so I can get the LDS Tools for my Executive Secretary role.

Is it possible to have access somehow to get the version for iOS 4.2.1 so I can do my job without a big outlay of cash.

Just did an app update and now it's working perfectly for me. App launches and all my unit data is there.
IOS6.1 with iPhone 3GS.

A new release was pushed out yesterday that hopefully fixes the issues reported in this thread. Here are the release notes for 2.1.2:

  • Resolved issues that were preventing the app from successfully syncing on Sundays
  • Added a new feature to preserve current data when performing a sync in case the sync isn’t successful
  • Added support for the following languages: Chinese, French, Japanese, and Korean
  • Resolved a few issues that were causing the app to crash occasionally

After latest version update, I got the following message after attempting to download data to LDStools app on my iPhone and iPad: "Error Downloading. Some information could not be downloaded. Please try again later." I believe this is happening because our stake has a unit with no members - a detention center branch. Could this be the reason that data will not sync? I am lost w/o the data. Thank you.

Map/Directions are still not working. Also, Reports, Action and Interview List, Bishopric Counselor Youth Interviews does not work. I was relying on this to do my interviews and it would always say "No members fall into this category", however, MLS and LDS.org both show that there are indeed Youth that are up for interviews. Just thought I would let you know.

LDS tools app on my ipad2 keeps giving me an error about syncing and calendar problems. It won't let me do anything at all - only shows my username and password fields - can't select anything else. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times - no luck. My daughter is sitting next to me using LDS tools on her Droid phone and it's fine. Help!!!

I updated my apps two days ago and today my LDS tools won't work. I get the list of names but it reverts to the main iPhone screen when I try to open a name. Calendar is incomplete, nothing else has data. What can I do?? Is it a Sunday issue??
