The iPad Ensign prototype app has been updated, adding the magazine to the Newsstand and including two additional issues of the magazine, October 2011 and May 2012. The tablet-friendly app is available for iOS and Android devices. A Liahona app, with the English, Spanish and Portuguese versions of the October 2011, November 2011 and May 2012 issues will be available in the following weeks.

I'm not sure what it would take from a technical perspective, but I'd love to see the newsstand side work on iPhone.

Are there plans to be able to rotate the screen to account for those wishing to view content in landscape mode?

# Scott Oakes 2012-05-29 18:04
I am able to view in landscape mode on my Samsung Galaxy Note

I use an Acer A500 tablet.

Previously having had some operational issues, I'd uninstalled the app. With this announcement, I went to Google Play (formerly Android Marketplace) & reinstalled the app.

The 2 new Ensign issue titles are there, however, when I attempt to download them, they say I must update the app at the store. The app as presented at the store, is still the Dec. 20, 2011 update.

When is the newer update going to hit the store so that we can take advantage of the new Ensign issues?

Thank you for continuing the developement of this app.

Thank you for your comments on the Ensign app. To answer a few questions that have been posted so far.

Currently there are no plans to create a smartphone sized interactive Ensign. It's tricky to design a full magazine for such a small screen. However, we do have epubs of the Ensign, May 2012 issue in iTunes, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. We are working to release more e-books very soon.

For right now, the Ensign will remain in portrait only. The software/platform that we are using to create the interactive Ensign can do both. However, the file size would essentially double. We're trying to be mindful of the large download and so we have chosen to stick with portrait for now.

We will be updating the Ensign app for Android very soon. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the latest interactive Ensign issues.

Thank you for your continued interest and all your feedback. We certainly value your questions and comments.

Do we have a date when the new Ensign app will be uploaded to Android Market? I look forward to studying the new interactive magazines and their content.

will all issues of the Ensign be available on this app or just the "special" ones Christmas and conference?

# SpartanVet 2012-05-29 18:49
Are there plans to have this app contain each month's Ensign or only the special editions such as General Conference?

Where do we report bugs with the application?

The Android app installs fine and the content downloads, but I get an error about "PDF stacks are not yet supported in Entitlement Viewer for Android".

In the Android Market comments, I see other people have the same problem. But I don't see where I can contribute information or track progress on the issue.

I have recently acquired a Blackberry Tablet-are there any plans to make the Ensign available for this?

Will this be made available for DroidX or do I need to wait until I upgrade my phone?

Love the app on the iPad.

Same issue here. Running ICS on an HP Touchpad.

Thank you everyone for your comments. To answer some of your questions:

We did update the LDS Ensign app and we are aware of the problem with downloading the October 2011 and May 2012 folio issues. Some of you have experienced the error "PDF stacks are not yet supported..." Our production team is working to update the folios and fix the errors.

We are using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to design the interactive magazines. This is the same platform that major magazine publishers are using. The software platform works very well for iPad but doesn't have that same strong support for Android. As you can see we are trying to work through these issues. We hope to have an update for Android very soon.

As we move forward we are hoping to flesh out a lot of the bugs for any and all future interactive magazine issues. If you have any feedback feel free email us directly at: InteractiveEnsi gn@ldschurch.org

Will a future version be available for the HP Touchpad or did we give up on this platform? I still see it being used in many wards. Thanks.

We are planning to create an Android 'rendition' of the Ensign magazines. This will be a 1280x800 resolution. Unfortunately our small team of digital magazine designers have been very busy creating the Liahona magazine app and have not been able to fix some of the issues for Android. We hope to have these problems resolved soon. We haven't forgotten about our Android friends.

Sir,

I believe the church has given up on that platform. Our ward suggested all TouchPad users to switch to either the Android tablets or IPads if they want to continue to use the digital scriptures during the studies. HP TouchPad support is officially not being updated by the church anymore based on our President.

How do I find and download the newest issue? I have the May issue, but it's now July...shouldn't I be getting an app update? Perhaps I don't understand how this works.

# Emily Hedrick 2012-07-13 09:00
Because the Ensign app is a beta, we are only publishing the General Conference issues and the special October 2011 issue. There are no official plans for 12 months of the interactive Ensign magazine. But we are hopeful.

When is the ensign app apk going to available for side load on kindle fire?

# Emily Hedrick 2012-07-13 09:01
The Kindle Fire is certainly on our radar. The earliest we could see a version of the Ensign magazine for the Kindle Fire would be November 2012. This is one of our most requested devices to publish to and I hope that we can publish more Church content in addition to the Ensign.

I downloaded the app but when I try downloading the magazines I get an error that the magazine version is not compatible with my app and that I need to update the app. I am running iOS 6 and downloaded the latest version of ensign but it's still not working. Installed and uninstalled several times. Any suggestions?

# RichWood 2012-10-24 21:52
I'm having the same issue as Shane M. I have an iPad 3rd generation with iOS 6 -- just downloaded the ensign app but it won't open Oct 2011 and May 2012 because it says I don't have the latest version.

What is going on with the Ensign app for my iPad? I have not been able to have access to my subscription for days. I tried to re-download the app and it will not open, just disappears.
