LDS Maps Version 3.0 released Print E-mail

A new version of LDS Maps is available. Version 3.0 of LDS Maps includes a host of new features that improve your experience in finding meetinghouses, members in your stake, and a variety of Church locations.

From LDS.org, you can access Maps by going to Tools > Maps. The direct URL for accessing Maps is http://lds.org/rcmaps.

LDS Maps

The features included in the 3.0 release include the following:

  • Single line search
  • Household verifications
  • "Maps 101" overlay help
  • "What’s Nearby" feature
  • Improved print options
  • Numerous map display options
  • New layers
  • Unit boundary maps
  • "Locate me" feature
  • Improved iPad and tablet support
  • Metrics units options

That's incredible! It's not perfect on the iPad, but it is still functional. I can't scroll in the left pane, but I was able to tap the alphabet to navigate a directory.

The pinch to zoom in/out support on the map is perfect! I love it.

I've mapped all members on the old site, but they aren't mapped on the new site. Will I have to remap them or will the data be moved?

Glen, the old maps.lds.org will only be there temporarily. Some groups still need that site (I'm not entirely sure why). Eventually there will just be one maps site.

Simon, the new site should have all the updates you made on the old one.

Are the members in your ward opted out? There's a known bug with households that are opted out of maps (private households) that is causing the location data to not be returned. So the data's there. Sorry for the inconvenience, we're working on it.

Hi Erin, Thanks for your reply. It doesn't seem as consistent as that. Some private households are mapped, some aren't. Are the old and new websites using the same data source? Or was one copied to the other and I mapped my entire ward in between the copy and the launch of the new site?

Both applications are pointing to the same data. If could you report the issue you're seeing on our beta forum at tech.lds.org/.../..., I can better address the problem you and other users are experiencing.

Awesome work. The interface seems a better organization and more intuitive. Love that they is one search box rather than seven. Also the maps and markers seem to load much faster than before.

a few problems which i noticed and when i was testing it i entered my branch rotherham branch (effingham st) and there was only have half the members in the members bit on the page they start from G not from A also there was only myself and sister gunn who had callings none of the branch presidency

also there is no housing on the maps where people live will this be down to the ward clark and the members that inst on the list who will but them on?


if you want me to get you the info of all the members and callings etc please let me know

Can you give me your stake/district name and what your calling/role is in your branch?

Hi The unit is The Rotherham Branch Sheffield Stake i noticed as i was testing it becuase i am a LDS TECH missionary there are only surnames from G-Z no A and all the callings are not in there i am also the elder quroum president my dads the branch president and said any info you need i can givemy e-mail is david.gunn@ldschurch.org

the branch president e-mail address is grahamgunnlds@b tinternet.com he also said you can e-mail but he would prefer if any communication goes though me beacuse i am the only one in the branch along with my wife who can use a computer

It is not a native iPad app. It is a tool on the LDS web site. You access it at lds.org/rcmaps

It works okay on the iPad. I couldn't get the left pane to scroll, but you can still navigate with the alphabet shortcuts. It only becomes a problem when you are viewing the entire stake or a really large ward. I was surprised zooming in and out on the map worked so well on the iPad.

Will there ever be a Maps app for iOS? I often need to get resource ad[censored] (Bishop's storehouse, temple, etc) while in Ward Council or other meetings and going through LDS.org on an iPhone/iTouch is too painful and slow. Maybe adding the resource info to LDS Tools would solve it also.

Me encanto esta nueva herramienta e tenido los registros de mi Barrio por casi 14 años y en este momento es un gran adelanto tenes estas funciones a nuestro alcance por medio de un ordenador se puede agregar cosas y es mas fácil buscar a un miembro por buscador aparte se hace mas fácil con el MLS

As a Stake Leader who is responsible for proposing some boundary changes, I would love the ability to see the locations of members for multiple units at once. At present, you can only see the boundaries and location of members of your home unit, a selected unit or for the Stake as a whole, not, say, three or four selected units at one time - at least not any way that I can find. I would really like to be able to see the boundaries and location of members for several units at once so I can better determine how new boundaries would impact the members of the affected units. To do this, I need to be able to see the boundaries and member locations for at least 4 units at once. Seeing the entire Stake at once is not useful since we have 13 total units.

I do know about the ability to obtain KMZ files of the Stake and Unit boundaries using the CDOL site but this does not plot the member locations as this site does. Hopefully this is a feature that can be added in short order.

I would like to know if we can access the previous version of the LDS Map (maps.lds.org). In the new release we lost all the member’s location and we urgently need that information to proceed with some construction request and some other ecclesiastic changes

Yes the previous version is still available at lds.org/maps.

It's nice that the download file contains latitude/longitude. Are there plans to enable automated GEO Codes in MLS based on a ranges of latitude/longitude? It is very difficult to maintain accurate GEO Codes due to our human condition :) It would be nice if at a stake level, I (stake clerk) could define GEO codes based on ranges that would be automatically populated in MLS when a member moves into a ward. Thx.
