LDS Tools for the iPhone, created by the LDS Church, allows you to view the member directory, calendar, and leadership callings for your ward or stake on your iPhone. Additionally, you can create contact lists and see member locations on maps.
The following screens show the features of LDS Tools on the iPhone.
Future versions of LDS Tools will allow users to access reports. Because LDS Tools connects with MLS through your LDS Account, LDS Tools can personalize the information it delivers based on your calling. If you have access to see MLS reports, such as Prospective Elders and Birthday List, you'll be able to view those reports on LDS Tools.
To enable rapid development of LDS Tools, most of the application was built internally through the LDS Church's IT department. After the initial development, LDS Tools was handed over to community resources to provide support, enhancements, bug-fixing, and long-term planning.
In addition to supporting and enhancing LDS Tools for the iPhone, community developers have also built WebOS and Android versions of LDS Tools with little or no help from internal Church resources. LDS Tools for Android will probably be released this week. LDS Tools for WebOS is nearing completion.
LDS Tools has thousands of downloads so far, mostly within the United States and Canada. One challenge in Europe is the restriction about personal information. The European Union's privacy directives prohibit the publishing of personal information online, such as a member directory, without consent of the directory's individuals. To accommodate this restriction, member information in LDS Tools for EU countries is hidden until a member selects to make it visible. In non-EU countries, member information is shown by default.
LDS Tools has not been localized into other languages besides English.
